God only asked us to do salat and zakat after he revealed all the corrupted
parts of the salat which is the content of salat and the amount of payment of
zakat;
By: Ijaz chaudry
For this article we travel back to the time of Muhammad over 1400 years ago and
capture the moments of how and when Muhammad received the details of correct
Salat. Because Quran was revealed in different order than what we have today we
will cross link the order of revelation of the Quran with what order we have now
of the chapters of the Quran. Muhammad was not revealed all the details of how
to do Salat until chapter 50 which is chapter 17 now.
In order to deduce facts of how the Salat details were revealed to Muhammad we
need to put forward a hypothesis. And this hypothesis is that if all details
were not revealed before Chapter 51 in order of revelation than the only way
this hypothesis can be proven true would be if God did not ask Muhammad and his
followers to observe the Salat until chapter 51, because God knows that not all
instructions of Salat were with Muhammad and He would not ask Muhammad and his
followers to do which is not been revealed.
If the above is true then the commandment saying Observe Salat and Zakat would
have come after chapter 50, in the order of revelation. There are some verses
which imply continuation of Salat for today’s generation where the whole Quran
has been revealed and there are some believers who read correct Salat. But the
only direct command to read Salat came after chapter 17 order of revelation 50.
This phenomenon is visible in;
(27:3) order of revelation 48
[27:3] Who observe the Contact Prayers (Salat), give the obligatory charity
(Zakat), and they are, with regard to the Hereafter, absolutely certain.
(35:18) order of revelation 43
[35:18] No, soul can carry the sins of another soul. If a soul that is loaded
with sins implores another to bear part of its load, no other soul can carry any
part of it, even if they were related. The only people to heed your warnings are
those who reverence their Lord, even when alone in their privacy, and observe
the Contact Prayers (Salat). Whoever purifies his soul, does so for his own
good. To GOD is the final destiny.
(35:29) order of revelation 43
[35:29] Surely, those who recite the book of GOD, observe the Contact Prayers
(Salat), and from our provisions to them they spend - secretly and publicly -
are engaged in an investment that never loses.
(20:132) order of revelation 45
The Parents' Responsibility
[20:132] You shall enjoin your family to observe the contact prayers (Salat),
and steadfastly persevere in doing so. We do not ask you for any provisions; we
are the ones who provide for you. The ultimate triumph belongs to the righteous.
It is important to notice here that in order for the parents to enjoin their
children to read salat they should know the salat themselves. So these would be
the believers now and in future who recite the salat correctly.
It is important to notice here that in order for the parents to enjoin their
children to read salat they should know the salat themselves. So these would be
the believers now and in future who recite the salat correctly. Thus addressing
today’s generation where all the Quran has been revealed including the Salat and
Zakat instructions.
There is however a direct commandment for
some believers to read salat in (73:20), however when you read this chapter
carefully you will notice that this chapter is referring to “Cloaked One” and
not Muhammad and his companions. Please read the following to clarify this
point.
(73:20) order of revelation 3.
[73:4] Or a little more. And read the Quran from cover to cover.
[73:20] Your Lord knows that you meditate during two-thirds of the night, or
half of it, or one-third of it, and so do some of those who believed with you.
GOD has designed the night and the day, and He knows that you cannot always do
this. He has pardoned you. Instead, you shall read what you can of the Quran. He
knows that some of you may be ill, others may be travelling in pursuit of GOD's
provisions, and others may be striving in the cause of GOD. You shall read what
you can of it, and observe the contact prayers (Salat), give the obligatory
charity (Zakat), and lend GOD a loan of righteousness. Whatever good you send
ahead on behalf of your souls, you will find it at GOD far better and generously
rewarded. And implore GOD for forgiveness. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful.
It is clear that this chapter is intended for the “Clocked One”, which would
happen in the future, why in the future, because only three chapters were
revealed up to this point however, in (73:4) it is asking the Clocked one to
read the Quran from cover to cover. As we know there is no nonsense in the
Quran, this have to be a future event when the whole Quran has been revealed and
hence the Quran could be read from cover to cover. This means that (73:20) also
is for the future generation where it commands them to observe Salat and Zakat,
and the details for these are already in the Quran.
What did Muhammad and his companions did instead of Salat and Zakat, they prayed
to God and gave to charity..
(108:2) order of revelation 15
[108:2] Therefore, you shall pray to your Lord, and give to charity.
Indeed (108:2) is not talking about Salat. It is just talking about prayer in
devotion to God, for example by reading Chapter 1 the key like Adam did (2:37).
Salat mentioned before chapter 50 in the order of revelation which does not
stipulate the observance of Salat;
Chapter verse and order of revelation;
7:170 39
19:31 44
19:55 44
19:59 44
20:14 45
20:132 45
27:3 48
35:18 43
35:29 43
73:20 3
74:43 4
75:31 31
87:15 8
107:4 17
And after these there is a direct commandment to observe Salat and Zakat,
similar command has been issued many times after chapter 87 order of revelation
in the Quran;
[2:43] order of revelation 87
You shall observe the Contact Prayers (Salat) and give the obligatory charity
(Zakat), and bow down with those who bow down.
